Sneaky Snake

Little girl standing tall

Sneaky snake standing small

Beneath the old oak tree

He was reaching for me

I was watching men dig the pond

No idea the snake wanted to bond

He stood as high as he could on his tail

Tried to reach my hand to no avail

He stood straight up and didn’t wiggle

The diggers and I couldn’t help but giggle

It was surely a sight and not one of fright

Not your everyday ordinary squiggle

______

One of Mama’s memories/stories was my inspiration for this poem. She recalled when they moved out to this old place and these men were digging out where the pond was to be. She was 11 or 12 and she was standing, watching and one of the men was gasping and pointing and motioning to her hand hanging down. She looked down and saw the most peculiar thing – a little green snake, reaching for her hand and standing on the end of his tail.

Well, you know how animals can smell fear? I mean, it’s scientific that fear has a certain odor. I think, too, that creatures can smell when people are good and kind and maybe this cute, funny little snake knew she was a sweetheart and was trying to befriend her. The man and Mama couldn’t help but giggle. She’d never seen a snake standing on its tail. I mean, have you?! Too bad she didn’t have a camera.

Prepping for January’s challenge – Plant-based diet

The only prepping I am planning to do for January is pulling back from coffee. I’m going from 6 cups a day to 1 cup a day and I started this yesterday. I can tell it’s having an effect on me as my eyes and body are severely tired. I’m just thankful I haven’t had the withdrawal headaches.

I quit the following on Dec 31 at midnight – no more meat, no more dairy, no more products from animals such as eggs, no more packaged food such as with plastic, metal cans, frozen, no processed foods, no sugar, no salt, no coffee, no alcohol. Only plant-based foods (the certified organic foods that you would find at Whole Foods or a community co-op.

Why? Well, I guess I’ll explain all that on day one if I haven’t explained already in an earlier post.

The Countdown is On!

20 days to go till the January challenge begins!!

LIVING A PLANT-BASED DIET for 30-31+ days!!

I will probably lose some weight, maybe lose some bad eating habits (I admit… I’m Carol and I am a junk food junkie), and hopefully not lose my mind during this very challenging,,, well, challenge.

Dec 15-26 cut back to 1 cup coffee per day
Dec 27-31 no more coffee, no more wine or cheese or milk
OR should I make it harder on myself and start ‘cold turkey’ on Jan 1 since that’s when it officially begins?

You be the judge. I’ll go with the majority.

Ah… Meditation is Bliss – Challenge!

How many of you meditate?

How many of you would like to start?

I want to start a meditation challenge and am curious how many of you would want to participate.

Counting Blessings – I Triple Dog Dare You!

count

Okay, instead of having a pity party on all that I don’t have or don’t have time for, I will instead count my blessings and be glad in each one every single day:

1.  Jesus loves me.  This I know.  For the Bible tells me so.

2.  God loves me.  Because He gave me Jesus.  Because He gave me Hallie.  Because He gave me Mama.  And soooo  much more!

3.  I have the world’s best, most loving, most compassionate, hilarious, intelligent, beautiful daughter, who’s my best friend.

4.  I have the world’s best, most loving, most kind, understanding, silly, fun, gorgeous mother, who’s my best friend.

5.  Thankful for my closest friends that I’d be lost without.

6.  Thankful for the friends I’ve made through the blogosphere.  I’m better for knowing you.

you

7.  Thankful for humor, for without it, I would have already lost my mind.

8.  Thankful for time to write when I actually have time to write.  I know I’ll receive some free time soon.  Hopefully soon.  I love to write!

9.  Thankful for work, for without it, I’d be po.  Well, I guess I am sort of poor but I can afford to send Hallie to a good school (with help from her dad) and I can pay our bills and we can eat and buy a gift or two at Christmas, so I guess we’re not too po.

10.  Thankful for being able to work from home so I can spend much more quality time with my babe and be there for Mama when she needs me to help her with something (most of the time).

11.  Thankful we are healthy.

12.  We have a home that’s warm in the winter and cool in the summer and we can enjoy life chatting and sitting in our front porch swing.

13.  We have a little land so we can run and frolic with the dogs and/or walk down to the pond to meditate/contemplate.

14.  We can always find something to laugh about.

15.  I have a car that runs and gets us where we need to go even though the air doesn’t work.  At least the heat and defrost does!

16.  I have an ex-husband that makes time for Hallie and wants to spend time with her.  Her dad loves her.

17.  No matter how I may mess up in my life from time to time, I know my Father will never leave nor forsake me.

18.  I’m saved!  Thank You, Jesus.  Thank You, God.

And so many more blessings to be thankful for – too many to count.

Do you have more positives than negatives?  I know I do!  I triple dog dare you to come up with at least 10 positive things about your life or good things/people/places that are in your life.  What are you thankful for today?

Love you!!!  *big squishy hug*

Happy Turkey Day, Y’all!

I just wanted to stick my head in real quick and take time to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving for those of you who are celebrating this day.  I would like say that I appreciate you and thank God for sharing your life with me and allowing me to share my life with you.  I’m truly a better person for knowing you and just wanted you to know.  I’m truly thankful on this day and every day.  I am learning not to complain as much for all that I don’t have and becoming more joyful and rich in all the blessings I do have.  I have a beautiful, wonderful, loving family who I adore.  We are healthy.  We have jobs.  Hallie has a great school.  We have our homes, our land, furry babies, loving friends like you and I could go on and on.

I hope you enjoy your day and weekend and feel truly blessed in all that you have.  Count your blessings and feel rich with those things given you.

I’m off to start all my cooking.  Made my pie crust dough last night and that’s been chilling overnight.  Gotta go make my deviled eggs, sweet potato casserole, apple pie with Gruyere baked into the crust (yum!), pumpkin roll and I’m not sure what else but I’m sure I’ll think o’ something to bring.  Then we’re off to Mama’s.  Good thing it’s right next door!  🙂

Happy Turkey Day, y’all!  *smooch*

Maybe I’ll actually post a photo or two later on.
